Wash & Dry
Keeping your down jacket clean and fluffy is easier than you thinkāno need to be intimidated! Follow these simple steps to wash and dry it safely at home and keep it performing like new.
Estimated time: 2h
Level: Very easy
Tools required: Washing machine, dryer, down jacket detergent
Attention: Top-loading machines with a central agitator can cause damage and air-drying instead of dryer could attract mould/mildew and down piles build-up, which could affect the proper insulation of your coat.
Instructions
1. Lay your jacket out, zip up all the zippers and hook-and-loop attachments (check your pockets too š). Place the jacket in your washing machine.
2. Add by following the instructions of the detergent specifically designed for down garments.
3. Set the load size on the washing machine to small, set the water temperature to cold and run the machine on a gentle or normal wash cycle.
4. Use a second rinse cycle, and at least two spin cycles.
5. Remove the jacket from the washing machine and place it in the dryer. The jacket is very heavy with the wet down, be carful when moving it so you donāt tear the fabric or stitching.
6. Turn items inside out prior to washing if water repellent fabrics are used in construction for faster drying. Water will escape faster through the lining material than it will through water repellent shell fabrics.
7. Add a couple of clean tennis balls or any type of dryer balls (wool, linen, etc.) to the dryer. The balls prevent the down from clumping and help it dry faster.
8. Start the dryer on the lowest heat setting. It may take more than one cycle to completely dry your down jacket. Make sure itās completely dry before you remove it and before you put it away.
